Chairbacks

Prototype shown here was milled from a solid block of nylon from the 3D design file fed into a CNC machining center. The computer rendering from the 3D file is shown here in the inset. As is obvious here, the prototype is identical to the rendering, thanks to precision levels of CNC machining centers nowadays.

This is a typical example of precision and functional prototype that can only be achieved with 3D designs. The subsequent injection molded products are also guaranteed to be exact copies of the prototype tested and approved.

Radio Fan

This product was designed by a factory in 2D, which naturally could not describe all the curvatures and profiles. We undertook to produce the prototype for them basing on their 2D drawings, as shown here. This was done manually by our artists. The components were then 3D-scanned to digitize the dimensions in order to have the plastic injection molds made.

Miscellaneous Toys

Shown here are some prototypes we did for toys. The torch prototype at the upper left hand corner was done by SLA (StereoLithographic Apparatus), which is a relatively new technology in the Rapid Prototyping area. Some people call this technology 3D printing. The prototype was actually "sprayed" droplet by droplet, and then layer by layer, to shape from the 3D file as input. This prototype here was done with the earlier models of SLA, and was somewhat brittle. New versions of SLA can actually produce the prototype in ABS or nylon, which is much more robust. The other samples are made manually according to art sketches provided by customer.

Golf Cart

This is a prototype made from a given design from client. After the prototype was made, some weak areas were highlighted, and we undertook to design the Mark II version, which is described in more detail in our Design Examples Section. A classic example of how a prototype can help to determine if a design is mature enough and ready for production.
